The Patagonia
All you need to do is venture through the Strait of Magellan, deep into Chile’s maze of glorious fjords, to understand why Verlasso chose to farm in this magical environment. As you pass the incandescent icebergs and massive glaciers, the untouched landscape takes your breath away. It is against this spectacular backdrop that Verlasso salmon comes to life. These pristine deep fjords - measuring in some places more than 75 meters deep and less than a kilometer off the shore - make them the perfect place to farm Verlasso salmon.
In some cases, these fjords are more than a three-hour boat ride from the nearest population. This minimizes any risk of industrial pollutants or PCB’s in the water that could potentially cause a negative effect on our farms. At Verlasso, we realize that we share this beautiful place with others. These fjords and islands off the Chilean coast are home to dolphins, whales, seals, Magellanic penguins and much more. We take great care to ensure that this environment is kept in as pristine condition as possible.
Through strict farming practices, a no-kill policy on predators, and extensive fallowing periods, we work each and every day to protect what is considered in the aquaculture industry to be one of the last and best remaining aquaculture locations in the world.
Through our daily efforts, we contribute to local economies that rely on these fjords for their livelihood today and for generations to come. Protecting them is our highest commitment and greatest honor.
